Mixed Results for Mixed Teams

The weekend of May 14/May 15 was a busy one for Chislehurst Mixed teams, and one of mixed fortunes. Both teams had to draft in ‘new blood’ to field teams, so the results were respectable in the circumstances.

Mixed 1 travelled to Catford Wanderers on Saturday morning, in the return fixture after our recent triumph, to meet a strong home squad. The first round saw honours even, with Sophie Day and Ben Cunliffe scoring a commendable half against the home first pair, losing a close first set 7-5 in a tie-break, second pair Diane Day and Clive Richardson lost 6-3, 6-2, and the scratch third pair of Judy Peel and debutant James Milanovic scored an impressive 6-3, 6-2 win over their opponents. The second round saw Sophie and Ben win, Diane and Clive half and Judy and James suffer a close defeat so that the match ended all-square at three rubbers a-piece.

Mixed 2 were away to Wickham Park on Sunday afternoon, with James Milanovic in action again, partnering Diana Guthrie to victory in two rubbers, but that was the only success for Chislehurst in a defeat by 4 rubbers to 2.
